Our Story
WoodWinters emerged from our desire to share the outstanding and diverse wines that we had experienced on our travels. We wanted to connect with like-minded wine drinkers and let them taste and buy the wines that we had come to adore.
Our enjoyment of wine is rooted in its quality, whatever the price point. We are excited by flavour, by provenance, by the myriad of natural elements and human decisions that combine to make truly exceptional wines.
We are not about short term deals but about supporting value and quality every day. Drinking a wine once because it was on a deal let us know that we were right – it didn’t fulfil our expectations. And what good is a bargain if the wine isn’t great? Life is too short for that.
We know that producing quality wine isn’t easy to do and that it doesn’t happen by chance. We understand that it requires effort and integrity and we think that’s worth paying for.
WoodWinters first shop opened in Bridge of Allan, near Stirling in Scotland in 2005. From day one the mission was to help our customers drink better wine. Buying wine should be a pleasure and we do all we can to make our service friendly and personal. We encourage a sense of fun and adventure to help our customers enjoy wines that are a cut above the rest.
This approach has seen us grow and after opening our second shop in Edinburgh our third followed in Inverness in 2016. Our growing portfolio of quality and value means we also supply many of Scotland and the UK’s top hotels and restaurants. And in 2017 we opened our London office to further promote and support the work of our many wonderful producers.
All this hard work (and great wines) has seen us voted not just the IWC Scottish Merchant of the year multiple times but also Decanter’s UK Retailer of the Year and we are consistently recognised as one of the UK’s top independents.
