The Le Miccine estate is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region between the towns of Radda and Gaiole. The 7 hectares of vineyards are farmed organically and owner/winemaker Paula is equally exacting in her management of all facets of the winery and business. These are real, hand-crafted, artisanal wines from hillside vineyards in one of the most sought after Classico sub zones. Terroir here is light and the altitude contributes to the cool micro-climate that is essential in producing mature, ripe Sangiovese. Her aim is to produce wines representing the traditional Tuscan varieties in isolation.
Le Miccine Clarsach 150cl 2018
13.5% abv
A single barrel of Carduus – a 100% Merlot (prior to Paula owning the estate this fruit made its way into the Chianti). One of these barrels stood out with its concentration and Paula decided to create a special edition – blending this barrel with a small portion of Merlot from a 350 litre tonneau, both having aged for 36 months. The exceptionally rare Taransaud T5. (T5 refers to the fact that the staves are dried for five years as opposed to normal two-to-three) – gives great finesse and length to the wine. It is big and bold and has a core of solidity and edgy wonder spicy, plummy & dense bouquet. The superior quality of this blend and the 2018 vintage convinced Paula to bottle in Magnums to improve the ageing potential for many years to come. As for the name, the Merlot plot looks like a harp and Paula’s Scottish roots led her to call this special wine Clarsach – the gaelic name of Scotland’s mosty ancient national instrument.
