Steeped in history dating back to 1692, Lanzerac Wine Estate is a historic landmark, synonymous with old-world charm and rich Cape heritage. Positioned in the idyllic Jonkershoek Valley on the outskirts of the historical town of Stellenbosch. It was at Lanzerac that the first commercially produced Pinotage was available, a 1959 vintage released in 1961 having been originally developed in Stellenbosch in 1925 by crossing Pinot Noir with Hermitage also known as Cinsault. Wines are currently produced at Lanzerac by winemaker Wynand Lategan under the guidance of Boets Nel of De Krans fame.
Lanzerac Pinotage 2019
14% abv
Nobody’s been bottling pinotage longer than Lanzerac and this wine shows a wealth of experience with this proudly South African variety.
Great colour with notes of berries and plums on the nose and palate.A full bodied complex wine with a beautiful balance between fruit and wood showcasing a well integrated tannin structure with a lingering aftertaste. A velvety finish with delicious chocolate finish. Enjoy with venison
All grapes are hand sorted before destemmend and crushed. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs – this done in the first part of the fermentation of Pinotage to extract colour and flavour. Free Run wine and pressed wine was fermented separately in tank. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrels. A selection of new, 2nd and 3rd fill French oak barrels were used to matured the Pinotage for 15 months
