Carinus Family Vineyards Dancho Luka ‘Koue Wit’ 2020

11.5% abv

Vol- 75cl

Dancho Luka Koue-Vid (Play on “Covid” and “Koue Wit” (Cold White))
Deigned to bring a smile into the world especially given the times, this release of the boys’ annual one-offs is light, fresh, fruity, textural and grape-tastic! They reckon that it is always good to break the monotony a bit during harvest, so we play around with a few fun ideas.
70% Muscat Blanc – aka Hanepoot in the Cape – from a family vineyard on the border of Polkadraai and Stellenbosch Kloof and 30% Semillon from their property in Polkadraai ward, Stellenbosch. Fermented to dry over 10 months in old French 300litre oak.

In their own words…. “The Muscat on its own brings memories of your childhood. Buying Hanepoot at a farm stall or next to the road. People always smile when they drink this wine. We added the Semillon to bring a bit of freshness and acidity to the wine.
The label describes the fun we are having with this offshoot project. It also points to our lack of budget as we used the same image for our Dancho Luka Pinot Noir 2019. On that particular label our glasses (of brandy & coke) were the handles to our lightsabers. With the Koue Vid we had mask’s edited onto our faces. This was a relaxed day at a kiddies party held at the Stellenbosch airfield* …..”
*we were not on kids duty nor did we attempt to pilot a plane.

Cousins Danie and Hugo are 5th generation growers with prime vineyards in the Swartland, Devon Valley and the very exciting Polkadraai ward in Stellenbosch. Great wine is made in the vineyards and they supply a roll-call of exceptional producers – names like Alheit Vineyards, Crystallum, Raats Family Wines, Thorne & Daughters, Mulderbosch & LeRiche to name but a few. Embodying the drive of the new generation Hugo and Danie decided not only to sell grapes and have other people make great wines from them but to make some wine too. So started Carinus Family Wines using their selection from their 100s hectares to focus on what works in each area.
