Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old

Dalwhinnie was almost unknown prior to its inclusion in Diageo’s Classic Malts series in 1987, and the majority of the spirit produced there still goes into the Buchanan’s and Black and White blends, despite it being in the top 15 best-selling malts worldwide. The distillery’s declared status as the Highlands representative in the Classic Malt range has raised a few eyebrows over the years, given that many writers (including Michael Jackson) consider it to be in the sub-region of Speyside (already represented by Cragganmore in the Classic Malts). Indeed, the distillery’s original name was Strathspey, and its closest neighbouring distillery is The Speyside.

NOSE
A big, crisp, dry and very aromatic nose with hints of heather and peat.

PALATE
Smooth, soft and lasting flavours of heather-honey sweetness and vanilla followed by deeper citrus-fruit flavours and hints of malted bread.

FINISH
Long, lingering, surprisingly intense finish that starts sweetly, then gives way to smoke, peat and malt.

This limited edition Glenfarclas pays tribute to the 15 winners of the previous Festival Glenfarclas Cross Country Steeple Chase Races, with each horse listed in order. The 15 Year Old whisky is the first in a trilogy celebrating the fact that Glenfarclas has signed on to sponsor the famous Cross Country Races for another three years, in November, December and March. To further mark the occasion, a share of the profits from the sale of the bottles will go to the Jockey Club’s charity partner, Racing Welfare. Each edition is comprised of only 3,000 bottles filled in clear glass, allowing the natural colour of Glenfarclas to shine through, making this an extra special bottling as Glenfarclas usually bottle in dark glass. The label reflects the 3 litre bottle presented to the winning owner & trainer, so everyone purchasing this bottle can feel like a winner!

WoodWinters THE ZERO – ‘SHABHAIL’ – 5cl Miniature Collection

This bottling is a one off for us; it is in fact a rebottling into our livery of a customers bottling that they had for some time. It was originally a broken cask that had been rescued and had been blended with a few other tail ends of casks. The majority of the whiskies come from the 70s; including Macallan, Glenfarclas and Highland Park, Glenrothes. There is also some Mortlach and Clynelish in there, all sherried casks which give it its beautiful dark natural colour and fruit tones.
The joy of this bottling is the sheer myriad of flavours which have the floral nuances of earl grey tea, cardamon and cinnamon, through a citrus spectrum and a sweetness too with marzipan and figs, all rounded together with the pipe tobacco and furniture polish / rancio notes. This is a pure one off; get it now and keep some for the future as I can’t see this coming about again.

Wemyss Blair Athol 30 Years Old ‘Jam On Toast’ – 5cl Miniature Collection 1991

This spicy single cask is from the Highland distillery of Blair Athol. Distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2021, this single malt is a majestic 30 years old. 237 bottles. This bottling is a Cask Club members’ exclusive.

Key tasting note: Sweet rich fruit flavours with a slight savoury edge evokes an array of rich fruits; plum and orange jam with sultanas. Complex wood spices give a peppery and spicy depth.

From a single 1st fill Sherry hogshead

Nose: Rich caramel sweetness, Scottish tablet and butterscotch. Glazed hazelnuts and cast iron roasted chestnuts. Rich berries provide a sweet backbone to the aroma.
Palate: Sweet rich fruit flavours with a slightly savoury edge evoke an array of rich fruits; plum and orange jam with sultanas. Complex wood spices give a peppery and spicy depth.
Finish: Malty, grist-y and spicy like a rich rye bread, pumpernickel or fruit loaf, with lingering caraway spice.

Springbank 18 Years Old – 5cl Miniature Collection

Casks: Bourbon/Sherry. Colour: Rusty Copper Nose: Full of authority. Rich and creamy at first, the nose develops to reveal vanilla, ripe fruits and marzipan before hints of sherbert, almonds and strawberries tempt you onwards to the first mouthful. Palate: A classic full-bodied dram. Thick and oily in texture with an extremely fruity and mellow taste which gives way to a sweet liquorice and aniseed flavour as it opens up.
Finish: Sweet and chocolatey with some coconut, the finish is long and consistent with a pleasant smokey tingle

Lochlea Distilling Co. Harvest Edition First Crop – 5cl Miniature Collection

The first release of Lochlea’s ‘Harvest Edition’, part of the distillery’s seasonal bottlings which follows the farming seasons. Matured in ex Port, 1st-fill Oloroso (Miguel Martin) and 1st-fill Bourbon (Makers Mark) casks.

Nose: honeyed apples, and fresh pear with a touch of hay in the distance.
Palate: strawberries, violet, toasted marshmallows.
Finish: signature Lochlea cereal and fresh cut grass.

Holyrood Arrival – 5cl Miniature Collection
