Steeped in history dating back to 1692, Lanzerac Wine Estate is a historic landmark, synonymous with old-world charm and rich Cape heritage. Positioned in the idyllic Jonkershoek Valley on the outskirts of the historical town of Stellenbosch. It was at Lanzerac that the first commercially produced Pinotage was available, a 1959 vintage released in 1961 having been originally developed in Stellenbosch in 1925 by crossing Pinot Noir with Hermitage also known as Cinsault. Wines are currently produced at Lanzerac by winemaker Wynand Lategan under the guidance of Boets Nel of De Krans fame.
Lanzerac Chardonnay 2022
13.5% abv
This delicious Chardonnay showcases prominent primary citrus aromas on the nose followed by flavours of lemon, vanilla and hits of ginger. The palate reveals an excellent balance between fruit, acidity and softness. Elegant and lingering aftertaste. Delicious with seafood, paella and creamy pasta dishes
The grapes were handpicked and hand sorted .70% of the chardonnay was fermented in barrels and 30% in stainless steel tanks. A combination of new, 2nd, 3rd and 4th fill barrels were used to ensure the best preservation of the fruit. Each vineyard block used for the Lanzerac Chardonnay is treated differently with different yeast regimes and fermentation. After fermentation the Chardonnay in the barrels are left on the lees and batonage is done every week for 7-8 months. After 9 months the Chardonnay is blended and prepared for bottling.
