Soul Growers El Mejor Cabernet Mourvedre 2016

14% abv

Vol- 75cl

El Mejor (Spanish for “The Best”) highlights the art of blending varieties rarely seen together in the hope it will invigorate your passion for wines that are judged purely on taste and flavour, not the varieties on the label – it is the very Soul of blending! composed of a ferment ustilising the most concentrated part of each individual vineyard pressing.

70% cabernet sauvignon, 15% each of shiraz and mourvedre, open-fermented, matured for 21 months in one new French hogshead and one new American hogshead, 60 dozen made. This vinification has produced a gnarly, black, tarry wine that is full-bodied but doesn’t show the tannins that are often packed into the framework of such styles. Given the micro-production, finessing would have been more than usually difficult.

Soul Growers was formed in 1998 by the experienced winemaker Paul Heinicke with the addition of award-winning winemaker Stuart Bourne, and quickly gathered a strong following in their domestic, Asian and North American markets. Most of their dedicated team members are 5th generation descendants from the first grape-growing families who settled in the Barossa valley. They are fortunate to work with Old Vine, Survivor, Centurion and Ancestor vines, some being over 130 years old, and their goal is to let the unique character of these vineyard sites across the Barossa valley shine through in their wines. Where nature provides, they only guide. With this in mind, they strive to make sure Soul Growers wines emphasise the regional and varietal flavours of their beloved Barossa Valley. The essence of what they strive for is to ensure a lifestyle that is good for the Soul; wine, food, family, music, mates and fun.
