Nals Margreid Pinot Noir Angra 2022

13.5% abv

Vol- 70cl

Nals Margreid – Angra Pinot Noir has a wealth of red berries and wild cherries that glide into something floral and a deep scent of spicy forest floor. The wine has aged for eight months in large oak barrels and it is nicely soft, rounded with fine-grained tannins. Juicy and fresh, It is unbelievably good and unspeakably promising.

The wine is wonderful already now, but the tertiary notes more than suggest that it will be really good if you can get away with forgetting that it is hidden in the cellar.

The vineyards of the Angra Pinot Noir are located in the Oltradige. The soil is a compact and impermeable moraine soil, made up of sediments from the ice age. The grapes are harvested by hand. After careful de-stemming, the must ferments in steel tanks with delicate pumping over. Malolactic fermentation and maturation for seven months in 40 hl wooden barrels follow.

Nals-Margreid (Nalles-Magrè in Italian) work with 138 growers who farm 170 hectares in 14 different areas. The vineyards are found stretching from the town of Nals, between Merano and Bolzano in the regions' North, to Margreid in the sunny South. The fruit provided by these growers (each with an average of 1 hectare) provides winemaker Harald Schraffl with the product from 14 of the most renowned areas in the Sudtirol. Elevations vary between 650 and 3000 feet and all benefit from the triple-whammy that the zone provides for quality viticulture: 300 days of sunshine, the protection of the Alps to the North combined with the warming influence of Mediterranean and big temperature swings between day and night.
